WELCOME TO OFF-BALANCE.

During my time in journalism school, I was told there were only so many ways to start a story and pursuing a degree in creative writing and later, my work as a freelance writer, taught me that there were only so many ways to end one.

And hey, for the most part, it works. But eventually, run in the same direction for too long and you’ll find yourself stuck in quicksand.

So that’s what brought me here.

I started this newsletter in the spring of 2023, as a way to discuss the topics I wasn’t covering in my professional writing. Mainly, this meant sports and every corner of pop culture.

There were no guarantees, in choosing not to go niche, in choosing not to specialize in any one thing but hey, so far, so good.

There are no paywalls here, no subscription plans or tiered engagement programs.

Just good content. And I hope you’ll consider joining me.

One more thing.

I often get asked about the name.

Off-Balancewhere’s that come from?

Well, I was born with mild-spastic Cerebral Palsy, which primarily affects my legs, in addition to being in my hands.

And while I’ve never let it define me, singularly, I am a proud member of the disabled community and it was something I wanted to highlight, if somewhat humorously, as I began this project - I think it stuck.

Thanks for stopping by!

I once wrote a speech on why people should cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Won a trophy. The guilt I feel. The lives I've ruined.
