Ryan, this warmed my heart to read! The sense of community on PEI has more layers than we can imagine, but it's magic to participate at any level. Summerside was "town" to me when I was growing up. We shopped (it used to have 2 malls), went to movies, went to teen dances, and felt like we were in a bigger place than we were.

You’re absolutely right Janice, the town you knew growing up will always stay with you - sometimes, in the most unexpected ways. The tissue that binds so much of our shared experiences together.

Thanks for the great story but why such a horrible shot directly into the sun of Water St.? Your readers can't see the cars, the street or....... I can only assume, the danncers.

Thanks for commenting, Dale.

My intention was to capture the sunset against the provincial flag (success on that count) but you're right, I didn't really retain anything else. I am not a photographer by any stretch, so I would definitely chalk this up as a learning opportunity: better framing and composition.

But additionally, I couldn't guarantee that anyone who was caught in the photo would actually want to have their photo taken either and that comes with a whole other set of challenges, especially in a large crowd: confirming names, their approval, and/or that of the car owners to have their vehicles/plates included. So I made the call to take a quick snapshot - but again, we're always learning as we go, you know?

I appreciate you reading and am glad you enjoyed the article. Cheers.
